My Students

Currently, I am teaching tenth grade students who are creating powerful works of visual art by investigating dynamic compositions through the basic languages such as shapes, space, overlap, movement - all the elements and principles of art. This spring, we are studying the complex colors and application of medium of acrylic paints.

We are learning to create potent content through various imagery juxtaposition and to ultimately question the intents and process of making art by transforming materials through techniques.

Laguardia High School is a specialized high school in the heart of New York City servicing students from all five boroughs and all family backgrounds. It is a haven for artistic minded students as well as a powerhouse for helping future artists achieve their college and career goals.

My Project

Our fall semester 10th grade art course called "Studio Practice 3/4" allows for our students to concentrate on basic graphic design principles in the form of collages, mono-printmaking techniques, and book making. Creating artworks that practice the use the Rules of Composition helps to establish building blocks for art students to visually convey information to the viewer such as mood, ideas, and story. One example is a panoramic MTA subway map that is crafted of collage papers is visually striking in the ways paper can be layered and manipulated into textures as well as informative in the career processes of a graphic designer.

Our 10th grade students get an in depth education into building strong compositions that allow for powerful artworks in all platforms of visual arts including graphic design, paintings, photographs.

These pieces that they will create throughout the semester are powerful enough to submit into exhibitions, contests, and college portfolios even as they will build on the knowledge in the upper grades of high school. The craft put into using the materials to collage, print, and draw with are transformed by my talented hard working students.
