Getting Our Reading-On

Help me give my students books to read over the summer! I would love to provide my students with multiple books for them to have to continue to foster their love of reading over the summer!

My Students

My students are so special to me. This is my first year of teaching and it will be a year I never forget for so many reasons. I have diverse group of kids with varying reading abilities. I have ELL learners, high achieving students, and lovers of all things sports. They all get along with each other so well and have always showed excitement for reading.

My students deserve something great during this uncertain time.

We are ending our school year like I never imagined, as with so many school across the United States. I saw a fellow teacher's idea of sending summer book boxes home to her students and loved the idea! What a wonderful way I can provide something to my students that many of them may not have access to financially.

My Project

My school is located in a rural town in Wisconsin. Many of my students don't have access to adequate internet during this safer at home act.

I want to end our school year on a positive note by personally sending my students multiple books that are theirs to keep and read over the summer!

A major goal at the end of 4th grade is a focus on student fluency and language development. These books will provide an avenue towards meeting this goal. They will be able to read aloud to a parent or guardian, a sibling, or even a pet!

These books will particularly help my students who do not have the ability to visit the public library or adequate internet access. These books may be the only ones they get over the duration of the summer.

I hope this can be a glimmer of hope as we end our school year in such an unconventional way!
