Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a low-income community comes with its challenges, but my students work through the tough times to come out on top! My students are amazing! They come from such diverse backgrounds, but come together to be one learning community. They are helpful, loving and enthusiastic about learning. My students come from working-class families who put forth as much effort as they can when it comes to their children's education. However, this is not always enough for our classroom to have all we need for success.
Third grade is a growing year.
The students in my class have a wide range of abilities and it is my job to help bridge the gap between the cans and the can nots. We work together, as a community, to build each other up and not leave anyone behind. We are all in this together!
The students in my class are mostly African-American and Hispanic. Many come from a single parent household, and from living environments that are not always the safest. I want for my students to be excited to come to school, not only for a safe place to be; but also because of all the learning that is occurring daily.
My Project
With these math and social studies materials, my students will be able to practice using fractions, telling time, and learning about landforms in a more interactive manner. Pizza is one of the best representations of fractions that we know in the real world. with Pizza Fraction Funtime, the students in my class will be able to learn about and practice using their fraction knowledge by playing with Pizza fractions and fraction dominoes.
Our world is surrounded by digital clocks, so how to we learn time on an analog clocK?
We use them, of course! During our time unit this year, some of my students expressed that they don't have analog clocks at their house. By getting small, individual clocks for the students to use, they can mimic what I will be doing either online or on a full sized Judy Clock..
Many of my kids have not traveled more than 20 miles away from their homes in our town. They are unaware of what our great country has in the way of landforms and bodies of water. Next year will be a year of inquiry if we are fortunate to receive the write on/wipe off landform maps.
We need Magnatiles to encourage our creativity. We will be able to use 2 dimensional shapes to build and create 3 dimensional masterpieces and expand our curiosity for learning.
