I am so lucky to be the teacher of five, amazing students this year. I teach Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities in a Title One school. Students in our program are coming to us because despite being incredibly bright, they are having struggles in their general education classroom because of behavioral and emotional concerns.
Almost all of my students have been alive less than ten years and have endured more than most adults I've ever met.
They are bright, triumphant, creative and hilarious. Many have experienced trauma and adversity but they are also beginning to experience support, consistency, success and confidence like they have never felt before.
Thirty percent of the students in our school receive free or reduced price lunch. For many students, they have become school averse and no longer think of school as a joyful place. It's my hope that by the time they get to us, our classroom is a safe, cheerful, comforting space for them to learn, grow, love and be loved. I hope they can find their love of learning once again.
My Project
One of my favorite blocks in the day is our calendar/math time. We incorporate number sense and math fluency practice into our calendar time every morning to help deepen student understanding of core concepts.
In order to cover all of these concepts at each students' level across four different grades, we have a lot of materials to keep track of!
With so much to learn, we don't want to waste any valuable teaching time searching for what we need! These materials will help us to reorganize our calendar/math materials so they can be quickly grabbed and put back for each day's lesson.
