This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are part of an inclusion class in a Title I school in Florida, where state funding is being cut yearly and the district is millions of dollars in debt. Most of my students come from single parent homes, with little to no income. Many of my students come to school hungry, dirty and tired and do not want to leave at the end of the day. My classroom is often their safe place; the place where they do not have to worry and can be their selves.
However, with all these obstacles, my students are eager to learn.
These third graders crave stability, organization and routine at school since so many do not have it at home. My students are active, curious and love learning. Everyday, they get excited about the lesson and jump into each one ready to go. Though, many of my students are on different academic paths they are very supportive and helpful to one another.
My Project
Individualized learning space, science magazines and expo markers will give my students the space, and materials needed to create a safer feeling learning environment. The Study Carrel Shields allow the students to focus and learn during independent work and assessments. This space will allow students to work freely and undisturbed by their surrounding. The Scholastic Science Magazines will provide fun and educational lessons in addition to the class Science curriculum that they can take home and share with their families. The students use expo markers daily in their math core and centers, additional markers will allow for the students to work without worry of not enough markers for all.
