My Students

I teach at a public school in NYC with a high immigrant population. It is a low income/high poverty area. Despite the learning and economic challenges my students face, they are determined to work hard and succeed in school.

Many of my fifth-grade students are learning English as a second language, and some of them also have a learning disability.

I try my best to making learning fun and memorable for them through hands-on activities and projects. However, due to their economic struggles, help is needed to purchase school materials.

My Project

My students need bins to organize their math activities and writing supplies. The bins for math will be organized by color to practice different skills, such as fluency with multiplication, or practice with fractions. The table caddies will be used to organize writing supplies, such as pencils to write, pens to edit, and post-its.

I teach my students to have good work habits, such as being organized.

It helps them to be more productive and accomplish tasks efficiently. Also, having the supplies in bins will allow my students to be more independent to find the materials they need to complete their work.
