Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
I have sanded and painted our current old classroom bookshelves each year to make them look better, but they are now beginning to fall apart. I would love to have new book shelves to improve the overall look of our classroom library and inspire students to read. A fun and cheerful classroom environment motivates students and provides a comfortable community of readers. I also need headphones for students to use to listen to stories on iPads and on CD players. The headphones keep the noise level down and help my students focus while listening while I teach small reading groups. They will use the microphones on the headphones to record their voices as they read stories they have written. The area rug would make the classroom library cozy as well.
