This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading: a time to discover, a time to learn, a time to enjoy. But what if the vast majority of books your teacher had in her classroom were over and above your head...would you enjoy reading then?
Hi, I am a first grade teacher in a Title I school in Brooklyn, New York.
My classroom is filled with eager students who are five and six years old. Many of them are below level readers who are still working on putting sounds together to make a simple word.
My Project
My classroom is filled with books that are over and above their reading level. That is why I am reaching out to you. Rookie Readers are books that are written with the new reader in mind. Rookie Reader books have repetitive text and child friendly pictures that make reading fun, enjoyable, and understandable. Having Rookie Readers in my classroom would change the lives of my students. They would be able to read the book independently and take a quiz about the story, which is at their level, and pass! The confidence levels of my children will skyrocket because they have been awarded for understanding the story. Reading and understanding the Rookie Reader books will makes them want to read more.
