Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, curious, and creative. They love to be challenged and to find answers out on their own. They feel great pride when they have found an answer to a problem on their own. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
"Many of my students come in saying that they couldn't complete the work because no one at home was able to help them."
My Project
My students love hands on materials. They love to read and to explore the world around them. We read for enjoyment and to become better readers. We have about a 95% population of Hispanic students and families which makes our need for English Language resources that much greater. Our students don't always have the home support since many of our parents are not fluent in the English Language. Many of our students depend on older siblings or other adults to provide the English support needed to complete a task.
"My students are more engage and immersed in the learning when given the opportunity to practice independently".
The sight word talking boards and the word family books will give the students the confidence that they need to work independently. Student will be taught how to use these resources during our centers. Once ready, they will also be able to take them home and continue to practice. Having students realize that the more they practice, the more they learn. Language should not be a barrier for anyone.
