Getting Lost in Literature: Books for College Bound Seniors

Help me give my students excellent literature to help them prepare for the AP Literature and Composition exam. Students read independent novels outside of class, and it is essential that they have access to high quality books.

My Project

AP Literature and Composition is a challenging class that requires students to read a lot in order to prepare for the AP exam. Students in this class are hard working, curious, and determined to succeed in and out of school. Most importantly, they have self-selected to take the course and have committed to meeting the demands of an AP class.

During the school year students must select two novels or plays to read outside of class.

These selections must be challenging and engaging. The novels and plays selected are high interest and critically acclaimed. They have been selected to match my students' interests and their desire to engage with a diverse range of voices.

For independent reading, students select books, sign-them out, and then complete book projects that they share with each other. The goal is that students will read quality literature in order to have a wide-range of choices to select from when they respond to the open question on the AP exam. This question allows students to write about any novel or play that they have previously read as long as it relates to a prompt they will not see until the day of the exam.
