As a teacher in the diverse city of Houston, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. We learn to accept the challenges with positive attitudes and a CAN DO mindset. My math classroom operates on student discovery and critical thinking. It is important they are able to work freely with others and have a space conducive for students minds to grow and wonder.
My kids come to class every day ready to get to work, they are loving math.
We have begun creating a more welcoming classroom. One thing we want to change is the lighting. I am hoping to receive fluorescent light covers to keep a calm mood in my room. Studies show this is environment is a more productive one especially for those kids with ADHD.
My students deserve a classroom that keeps them engaged and excited to explore math concepts. Research shows that bright lights can stimulate hyper behavior. I want to have the mood for math and learning in my room by welcoming my students to a calm classroom.
This environment will encourage them to talk with their peers about math concepts and stay on task.
We also track data in my room daily. Now we are more than halfway through the year and running low on green checking pencils. I have added these to my request as well. This helps my students to be independent and choose their own learning needs.
