My students need exposure to reading books that encourage imagination and wonder. As the whole class reads along to Harry Potter, they get hooked and read the entire series on their own.

My Students

My classroom has curious 9 year olds who have not had many opportunities to experience the world outside of Ogden, UT. I try to expand their background knowledge through reading and hands on experiences that get them excited about learning. One of the best ways to expand their background knowledge is through reading. They love the excitement, imagination, and wonder that occurs as we read and discuss a book together. This helps teach them why reading is fun and exciting.

My Project

Many of the students in my class have not had the opportunity to experience the world outside of Ogden, UT. Some do not even have books for them to read in their homes. This class set of the first Harry Potter will allow them to experience the wonder of reading as we read and discuss this book together as a class. Then, many students will get hooked and will continue to read the entire series on their own and they become readers! As I have read this book aloud to my class, it has gotten more students excited about reading than any other book. Allowing each student to have their own copy will enhance their reading and comprehension skills as well as encourage a love of learning!
