My students need the science activity tubs for space, matter, rocks and minerals, human body, force and motion, insects, animals and plants. My students also need the books that go along with each tub.
I am a 2nd-3rd grade self-contained, exceptional children's teacher in a low income area of North Carolina. My school is a Title I school and we serve military families . All of the students and the students in my class receive free breakfast and lunch. I teach students with all different types of disabilities.
I have students who have Autism and enjoy sensory activities.
I have students with sensory issues which makes it hard for them to explore the world around them. I have other students who have medical needs that make it harder for them to access the world around them. I have students who have traumatic brain injury and the majority of my class suffer from ADHD. All my students like being able to move around the room and sit in different chairs or the carpet or the table. They also love using technology in order to learn.
I'm more interested in arousing enthusiasm in kids than in teaching the facts. The facts may change, but that enthusiasm for exploring the world will remain with them the rest of their lives.--Seymour Simon. I do not want to pull a book out and teach, I want activities
My Project
By getting these manipulative's, I can teach students to become an astronomer by using the space activity tub. They can become a zoologist with the animal activity tub. They can become a doctor with the human body activity tub. They can become experts about insects and plants using the insect activity tub and plant activity tub. They can become a meteorologist with the weather activity tub. These resources will give my students a chance to learn in a meaningfully way and use their imaginations when learning these concepts.
I want my students to have the same opportunities as regular students to learn and to have dreams about what they want to be when they grow up.
That is why this project is very important to my students, because even though they may never become a Zoologist, astronomer, meteorologist or doctor I can say for those years that they were in my class I gave them a chance and made them become a Zoologist, astronomer, or doctor even for such a short time
