Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I've recently moved to a much bigger school, and have quickly realized just how much equipment it requires for everyone to participate. As part of a team-teacher group, our largest girl's Physical education class is 180 girls. You can imagine the difficulty in teaching basketball or volleyball skills with only 10 balls. It disheartens me that in a physical education class, we have more girls standing around waiting for their turn than actually being physical. This is why I have decided to write this proposal, to increase the amount of equipment that we have and to also introduce the girls to the sport of badminton. I work at the High School for Media and Communications, one of four high schools at the George Washington High School campus. The Physical Education department is the only department on campus that serves all four schools, therefore the equipment would be used by approximately 1100 girls. Some equipment that I'm hoping to receive is Basketballs, Volleyballs, Volleyball Nets, Flag Football Belts, Footballs, Badminton Raquets, Jumpropes and Shuttlecocks.
Our students are really enthusiastic about Phys-ed and love to be active in class. With this grant, I will be able to ensure that all the girls have ample time, not only to learn the skills necessary, but to also fully participate.
