Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have a Link Crew program where selected Junior and Senior students are trained to mentor the students in the Freshmen class. We have some amazing Link Crew Leaders at our high school! Still, it can be a challenge to convince the incoming Freshmen to take part in Link Crew activities.
By serving popcorn at Link Crew events, we are hoping that more Freshmen will attend Link Crew events and gatherings.
After extensive training, the Link Leaders run freshman orientation, which occurs, each year, before school starts in August. At the orientation, each Link Leader is given a small group of freshmen to work with that day and is asked to befriend and to help that group during the first week of school with any challenges they may face. Periodically, during the school year, Link Leaders meet again with their student groups to touch base, discuss problems, and plan social activities. We are hoping to serve free popcorn at these events to encourage Freshmen participation. We know that, as a general rule, the more contact a Freshman has with her/his Link Leader, the more successful they will be at the High School.
My Project
Link Crew is a program that helps "link" Freshmen to the high school. Link Crew puts on a number of events, including Freshmen orientation, football tailgate parties, and Freshmen movie night. Link Crew Leaders work with the Freshman class to help the Freshmen make successful transitions to the high school.
The Link Crew Leaders would very much like to have the ability to serve popcorn at Freshmen orientation, the Freshmen football tailgate parties, Freshmen movie night, and at other Link Crew events.
