Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As my first year teaching in Houston, I am extremely excited to meet my students and learn about them as individuals. My belief as a teacher is that my students should feel like they are part of our classroom community, they should be comfortable, and they should be able to collaborate. In order to achieve these goals, our classroom is in need of some supplies. I want my students to get the most out of our classroom as we take on second grade as a team!
My Project
I want to create a classroom community where students have choice, comfort, and collaboration. Flexible seating gives students the ability to choose where they work in the classroom. This, in turn, gives students the feeling of being a part of the community and being an active part of their learning.
Flexible seating allows students to easily collaborate with one another by pairing up quickly and easily instead of moving heavy desks across the room.
This means less time spent moving furniture and more time LEARNING! Many students also use the sense of touch in order to focus and process information, and flexible seating provides that sensory input. This is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD, and ASD.
