My students need Kindle Fires to differentiate their instruction and to provide more immediate feedback on their progress! Utilizing technology to provide interesting, leveled, reading material will help motivate my students who struggle with reading.
I teach 5th and 6th grade students in an Academic Support classroom. My students have a variety of learning needs ranging from learning disabilities and other health impairments, to autism and other spectrum disorders. We work on learning a variety of strategies to best meet our individual needs, while engaging in grade level material, on a daily basis.
The philosophy in our classroom is; If you can read, you can learn anything!
Technology is a very useful tool we can use to differentiate instruction and motivate students who struggle with reading. My school is located in a high poverty area therefore access to technology and different motivational tools is somewhat limited. My students love to learn but often need nontraditional ways to tackle the learning obstacles they face.
My Project
Through the use of these Kindle Fires, students can individualize their reading. Even small changes, such as text size and background color can have a huge impact on reading motivation and ability. Students can customize their reading and can more readily find reading that is of interest to them on their individualized levels. Access to Audiobooks enable readers to see, hear, and touch the text at the same time, which helps to improve attention, concentration, fluency, and comprehension.
This technology will enable my students to read more accurately, meaningfully, and expressively!
The student friendly cases also enable students to move around the room and find more comfortable reading positions to become active, engaged readers.
