I have a class of 21 eager to learn 1st graders! My students come to school eager to learn and interact with their friends. My class consist of various economic and ethnic backgrounds. I have special educations students, ELL students and learners of a variety of academic levels.
With a focus on growing every student to encompass 21st century skills, we want to make sure all of our students have the tools to be successful inside and outside of the classroom with the use of technology.
Not all of our student have the resources and experience with technology at home, so we try to give all of our students the opportunity to have access to technology which is apart of everyday life. I want my students to be lifelong learners, in order to make this happen, my classroom needs to be a fun, engaging place to be and to learn and I am confident that having modern technology in our classroom will definitely achieve this goal!
My Project
My school has a few over 1000 students with only 1 computer/technology lab for the entire school to share. The upper grades are equipped with one to one Chromebooks, while the pre-K through 2nd grade students all share outdated iPad carts which becomes very difficult to share. Much of our learning time is disrupted with distributing, collecting, and delivering iPads among the classes. Most of the iPads on the carts are not working or have trouble holding a charge long enough for the students to use during center time.
My students need access to modern technology in order to prepare them for the skills they need to be successful 21st century learners.
My students will use Kindle Fire tablets in the classroom to incorporate literacy and technology as well as allowing the students time to become more familiar with educational technology. They will also use them to increase their reading comprehension, listening, and fluency skills in addition to allowing them to gain more practice with various reading learning apps. With the Kindle Fire tablets they will be able to do research in the classroom for group and partner projects. This will be especially beneficial for my ELL students. Giving them yet another useful tool to become successful and help them develop and grow in our classroom. As their teacher, I would like to give all of my students every resource possible to grow them as readers and lifelong learners, and I am confident that the Kindle Fire tablets will allow them to reach these goals as they listen to and interact with Literacy on tablets.
