My Students

The types of students that I see are students who have struggled with reading from an early age. They have usually had countless hours of remediation, working with tutors and teachers that have tried to give them what they need in reading.

These are smart children, but even with all of that help they just still struggle to read.

The types of students that I see have sometimes struggled with self-esteem because they don't feel like they will ever become good readers. Some have even given up on school. I want to change that. I don't want any student to feel like they can't read.

My Project

Having these magazines, will allow me to do guided reading lessons that will be meaningful to students. They will also be able to use the magazines as a shared reading with a group or partner in reading assignments. Students love reading these high interest passages that include non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and plays. Each magazine is accompanied by a teacher guide to help me get the most learning out of each magazine.

Shhhhh, don't tell students they are learning with these magazines, they would never know it.

I save the magazines to use for years to come. Magazines also include debates about popular topics to encourage writing. For example- should cursive writing be required in schools? It gives arguments for both sides and students then state their opinion and evidence for that opinion.

There are tons of ways to use these magazines!
