This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Fifth grade is struggling to meet grade level content expectations in math and my hope is that by implementing a new Math Exploration to help build basic skills, we will see them grow.
Our class is full of very unique personalities.
They thrive off of positive reinforcement. My students need an organized, structured learning environment. Many come from challenging home lives but show up to school every day ready to learn. I want them to have all the tools and support possible to improve their chances for success.
My Project
I am requesting 1 teaching easel, 1 storage stool, and 1 pack of cursive nameplates. The teaching easel will help me with implementing Calendar Math where students will use the current date to explore a variety of math skills. Space is limited and this will allow every student to have easy access to the board. The storage stool will allow all math materials for Calendar Math to be stored in one place and travel around the classroom with me when I work with small groups or individuals. My students will love the new nameplates, which also have the multiplication table and fraction tools for them to use.
These supplies will not only help my students in the near future but for the whole entire year (and years to come).
I will be able to spend less time organizing/moving supplies for math and more time helping students. When not being used for math, I can re-purpose them for other activities.
