Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school where 100% of students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. All of my students come from a low income neighborhood where most parents have to work countless hours to provide basic needs for their children.
My students are loving, energetic, and eager learners who come from diverse cultural backgrounds and all are learning English as a second language.
For the majority of my students, my classroom is their first school experience and most enter with limited previous exposure to academic and social settings outside of their homes. I am aware of the hardships that come with economic limitations; I strive to provide them with diverse resources to allow them to grow academically and shine individually.
My Project
My incoming students will be young and ready to start their educational career in my classroom! In order to ensure that we have a successful year, I need to provide them with the social emotional tools they need. The Character Education & Social Skills Curriculum Bundle for Little Learners is the perfect resource that can show them with colorful visuals different ways to deal with social/emotional situations they will encounter. These skills are crucial for school readiness. Without social, and emotional self-control in the classroom, learning cannot occur.
Social-emotional development helps children learn critical skills such as communication, ability to connect with others, resolve conflict, self-regulate, display kindness, empathy and cope with challenges.
The STEAM bundle, Poly project envelopes, sheet protectors and card stock will help me make take home folders to help establish a home school connection. These folders will help students and their families to expand and build upon the learning that is occurring in the classroom.
