Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are a full spectrum with a diverse campus in race, culture, socioeconomic status and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students, grades 7th thru 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically our students are approximately 87% minorities with 45% being Latin American, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander. Twenty-five percent of our students are currently an English Language Learner.
Over 75% of our students come from low-socioeconomic background, but their thirst for knowledge is fierce!
My Project
My traditional art class will be doing several project-based learning activities throughout the year. Most of the project will involve, charcoal, glues, markers, paint and other things that will dirty up clothing and hands. The world will be their oyster and throughout the year there will be no limit on what they can incorporate but the ruin of outfits is a real concern over the course of the year. Not all of my parents have the option to continually replace permanently stained or soiled clothing nor should they have to worry about what they send their child into school with.
In order for my students to dive in and focus on project-based learning, I need a classroom set of aprons and disposal gloves and cleaning supplies so there is zero hesitation in learning.
Please help us get aprons, disposable gloves, hand scrubs and soaps for a year-long worry-free classroom!
