Getting Creative With 3D Pens

Help me give my students a set of 3D printer pens and filament ink.

My Students

My students are creative with vivid imaginations that love to learn outside of a textbook. They need a way to take their designs and bring them to life. In the classroom we have a wide range of students who are hands-on and visual learners. We differentiate our academic activities, but we need materials that allow us to differentiate our creative learning environment. My students have goals of being scientists, engineers, athletes, teachers, and doctors.

My students need 3D printer pens to add to our Maker Space to use during our STEM building and engineering block.

My Project

STEM activities let my students learn the creative process, problem solve and demonstrate learning not through books, lectures or media.... but doing!

Hands-on learning allows my students to imagine, design, and build!

This is one of the latest 3D tools available and we can use drafting programs like Sketch-up to plan and design our products before we use the pen. My students will learn to solve problems of “drawing in the air”, learn about the limits and possibilities of 3D printing, and how to build.

My students will also have to include math concepts in their designs. They will calculate material needed, the maximum load the objects can hold, the limits of the plastic materials, and so many fantastic ways to show that math is inherent in everything. We will learn what a 3D printer actually does and walk through the steps and computer code needed to get the machine to create the desired outcome.
