Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students often ask me, "when am I ever going to use science in my life?" I tell them it is not the just the content that is important, but it is the way science requires you to approach problems that is truly valuable.
My students want tangible learning experiences that have real-world applications.
Students at my school have limited resources to engage in truly immersive learning in the science concepts that interest them. This is compounded by the fact that often times, even the essential supplies needed are not available.
My Project
The requested materials will be used by students to bring their projects to life, and more importantly add some color. Students will need poster board to display their work, construction paper and colored pencils to add some flair and glue sticks to hold it all together.
My students need these materials to help add a personal touch to their projects and presentations, they also need pencils, so many pencils.
There are not always good opportunities for self expression in the science classroom. On a day-to-day basis there is very little call for personal, creative input. Usually we rely on facts and data and critical thinking. That can get very boring for many students who have artistic interests...I get bored with it myself. What to do? Give them materials to work with.
