Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a pre-k through 5th-grade school in a low socio-economic area. Our school qualifies for 100% free lunch and often students come to school with barely what they need to get through the school day. The lack of having their basic needs met becomes all-consuming and often the idea of reading and reading for enjoyment gets put on the back burner.
Reading feeds the imagination!
Providing students with access to books and ' utilizing them hand in hand with technology and innovation can open doors for them that would otherwise be left closed. My students, though having very little, try their very best and strive to meet the goals put forward by our school. We are a Leader In Me School and our students are trying, against all odds, to represent the habits embedded in this program while also striving to be the academically best they can be!
My Project
Teachers Pay Teachers is a site used often to help provide engaging activities to supplement learning within the classroom. As a school librarian , I struggle to find the time to create engaging resources, process books, circulate books, and make sure students are able to show their content knowledge.
A Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will help me save time and access creative resources to provide students all while saving out of pocket spending.
As a teacher, a good chunk of supplies and resources that we need to help support our content is often not provided to us and we dig into our pocket books to gain access to these resources. The fulfillment of this project will help alleviate some of that stress and help me to reach my students with out breaking the bank.
