My Students
The students in the 4th grade classes are always on the go, looking to move around the classroom to be fully engaged.
I teach in a low income Title 1 school where students are aspiring to learn.
Being comfortable in their own environment allows students to complete their work. Sitting on hard chairs all day becomes uncomfortable and distracting. Having flexible seating will allow students to sit together in a corner or around a group table to collaborate. These different chairs will give them an option to be comfortable when completing their work, give them a space to read a good book, or a place to learn new things.
My Project
In fourth grade, one of the coupons my students LOVE to receive is the comfy seating. They get to sit anywhere in the classroom for the entire day. However, they are still sitting on those same old hard classroom chairs.
These students spend 7 hours a day at school and most of the time is spent in the same classroom in the same chairs.
My project will give my students more choices in how they can sit. Whether they are joining each other at the guided reading table or sitting in the corner while silently reading. During a read aloud, the students want to move around, sit on the floor with the pillows, or relax in the empire chairs. They will be able to move around the room, sit in a different perspective, and get comfy to learn everything they need to learn!
The different seats I am requesting will give my students the opportunity to be comfortable when in the classroom. The stools will be placed around the guided reading table for students to come together to work on a specific skill we are learning. The empire chairs will be set near the books so they have a space to sit when enjoying a good book.
