My Students

My classroom is filled with students from all over the city of Philadelphia. The diversity of my classroom provides so many opportunities for not only me to lean and grow as an educator but for them to constantly learn from each other. Each day my 24 students come in to school ready to learn and grow as scholars. Their days are jammed pack with exploring math, reading, and writing, as well as art, music and Spanish!

My school's mission is to guide our students into becoming global citizens.

Their daily learning is filled with activities that will help them learn about other cultures and life situations. They are growing as individuals by becoming more accepting of others and by gaining knowledge of things they are not normally exposed to... I am beyond grateful to get to experience these 2nd graders flourish each and everyday.

My Project

A large portion of my students' days are filled with reading workshop time. This workshop includes a large amount of independent work time. I want to provide my students with items to use around the classroom that would help them get the most out of their reading time while also increasing their focus and engagement.

By offering my students flexible seating options, independent work time can be taken to the next level!

As adults, we have the choice to complete learning in a library, at our homes, or even coffeeshops. My students should have the opportunity to have these different types of comfort choices in our classroom. They can use the seat cushions to work underneath tables and go to corners of the room to have their own personal space. They can use the floor seats to sit next to an anchor chart to refer to as they work. As 2nd graders, my students are also just beginning to learn how to take notes while they read. The lap desks will let the students move around the room, while at the same time providing them a space to lean on when taking notes as they come across important parts of a book.

By donating to our project, you will help increase my students' engagement and focus in reading workshop. You will also help provide my students with more opportunities to make learning decisions for themselves. When they see that they no longer have to complete work at their tables, sitting so close to their classmates- they will be able to spend more time on the academic material and not whether they have enough space to work. These materials will enhance our overall classroom environment!
