Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school where 86% percent of my students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend as well. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They are kind, sweet, and want to learn. At times it is difficult for my students to maintain focus when they are challenged in their personal lives. Returning from COVID has added another challenge within the classrooms. Children will not be able to share crayons, glue sticks, and other materials. I hope with all the new changes I create a classroom where, no matter what they face, my students will love school and become lifelong learners.

My Project

The flexible chairs will allow students to sit comfortably around the room. Creating different areas in the room to promote reading, encourages students to want to read independently.

The books, Are you my Monster, will be given to each child at the end of a "Monster's Unit".

This unit combines, reading, writing and creative thought. It is a project that students look forward to each year.

The incentives will help students strive for learning excellence. 2nd graders often need extrinsic motivators to help encourage learning growth. Each child is encouraged to visit the treasure box once each month.
