My Students
Our teachers work diligently with an approach to education, which encompasses innovative teaching methods and inspiring academic achievement. We instill rigorous academics and prepare students to be college and career ready! One of our many priorities is to close the achievement gap by inspiring our scholars to be community leaders and global competitors.
This year, I have the pleasure of working with scholars in 6th grade in the content area of Language Arts.
It is my duty to inspire our students and to instill in them the value of education in the hopes that they understand that their circumstances will not define who they are. I am teaching approximately 70 students who come from diverse cultural backgrounds.
My Project
As a literacy teacher, it is my duty to instill a love of reading in the lives of my students. At the beginning of every class, we – including myself, participate in fifteen minutes of D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read), where students are encourage to read a novel of their choice. However, it has come to my attention that though they love the novels I have in the class, they would like a place where they can enjoy their reading time. (I was told that it is okay to sit on the floor, but they want something cooler and more suave – my middle schoolers!) The problem is that we currently don’t have a reading corner, just their desk or the hard floor. I firmly believe that I can fix this situation by obtaining the items being asked from this project. Fulfilling this project will most likely have my students asking to stay with me during their lunch time!
A classroom should be a place where a child feels at home and where they are supported intellectually and academically.
With your help, I can transform the back corner of our room into a comfy and cozy reading and study corner. I am more than sure that by achieving this goal, I am going to need to create a signup sheet for our independent reading center!
