I have a wonderful classroom full of 6 - 7 year old students who are full of energy, excitement, and are ready to learn! They come from a variety of homes and cultures. They each bring something wonderful, exciting, and different to our classroom. I have students that receive special education services, who struggle with speech, and are new to our Country.
In my classroom, I strive to teach the whole child.
Our school emphasizes the importance of character development, social-emotional learning, and educational progress. In first grade, this is the opportunity to give a student a strong foundation to become excited about learning, and to become a life-long learner.
My Project
Young students are full of energy, and as a teacher I want that energy directed towards learning! My students are constantly wiggling and falling out of seats. They need a place to focus that physical energy so they can be more engaged in learning how to read.
Everyone wants a comfy seat to read in!
This will give my students comfy seats that will support their backs as they read in the classroom library. The wobble seats will be perfect for my students to sit in while having small group instruction. They can wiggle and move while still being engaged in the lessons being taught. I have used other flexible seating in my classroom before and seen a huge increase in the student's ability to focus, especially my students with ADHD and ADD. The students are more engaged and focused when they have an outlet for their physical energy, and they are excited to go read when they know they'll have a comfy seat in a quiet reading spot.
