My Students

The students at my school are eager to learn but need a environment that is more conducive to their needs. 1st graders are wiggly and energetic- they need ways to get those wiggles out while still being actively engaged in learning! Many of my students come from low income home where they don’t have a reading nook, books, writing materials available. My classroom will be set up to give them a comfy place to read and write so they get the practice they might not be able to get at home.

My Project

This is my first year at this school. My classroom is a blank slate not conducive to learning. First grade is a year where kids truly become readers and writers! As a teacher, it is important to make reading and writing fun so kids will continue to maintain their enthusiasm for learning! With only straight-back chairs at desks and the hard floor as seating, my students often avoid tasks that require a lot of sitting still, like independent reading and writing practice. With your help, I can transform our reading corner into our room's most inviting spot by providing a comfy seating option! We are requesting beanbag seats and wobble chairs. I can also turn our writing center into a spot that encourages imagination while kids can safely wiggle while they write. Soon we'll need a waiting list for the independent reading and writing centers!
