Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to me at a variety of levels, but all are eager to learn in Kindergarten. Many of my students will be attending school for the first time and are new to a school environment. They are excited for their first year of school and also nervous about new people and routines.
I teach at a Title I school in Tampa where over 90% of students are on the free lunch program.
Most of our student population is Hispanic/Latino, and our families typically have multiple students. Since many of my students are still new to the English language, they are mostly visual learners and need more exposure to vocabulary.
My students want to learn. My families want the best education for their children. I want to allow my students the same opportunities as any other kindergarten class while still accommodating their different needs and preparing them for the ever changing 21st Century jobs they will have.
My Project
I would like to make new centers for all subject areas and laminate them so they can be reused for years to come. However, it can be very expensive to buy all of the materials needed to create fun and academic based centers. The pouches will allow for centers to be switched out easily while keeping the procedures the same for students.
Students love bright colors and being able to use write and wipe anything.
This project would allow me to create centers for all academic areas that students can play over and over again. This purposeful repetition will solidify the standards students are learning.
