My students walk into our science classroom every day eager to learn something new. I am often greeted with the question of "What are we doing today?" because they know something different, fun, and engaging is likely to happen.
I teach at a Title I school where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
More than three-quarters of our students are from low-income households. Despite their hardships, our students still come to school every day ready to learn.
My Project
A few weeks ago my students experienced the effects of the natural disaster Hurricane Florence. Most of the students where without power for several days and some lost their home or belongings to flooding. While schools were closed for weeks, students were not able to maintain the daily routine of attending school and were left to deal with the hardships in their community following the storm.
Your donation will help to calm students, allow them to focus more effectively and resume their normal routine activities in school.
The sensory toys will help to reduce stress, anxiety, fidgeting and lack of focus for the students. The pencils, tape, glue sticks, coloring pencils, tissues, wipes and storage bags will fulfill some of the basic needs that the students have in the classroom. The classroom is a place of safety, comfort and normalcy, and with your donation these items will help to restore that for students.
