This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach students in grades 6th – 8th grade in a public school. Currently our resources are limited and or outdated.
My students dream for the stars.
Yet, aren't readily given the supplies to push them to their potentials and make their dreams come true. They work hard but are lacking the basic skills required of them on standardized tests. If given the resources my students will use them as tools to do their best and improve their understanding.
They need consistent, current, engaging and common core learning materials.
My Project
My students need to understand the foundations of language (vocabulary, parts of speech, and conventions). Many of them lack the basic knowledge of words. However, with these resources students will receive the foundations of language that they are missing or have forgotten.
I will incorporate these resources into my differentiated reading stations for all three grade levels.
The stations that I will incorporate these materials into will be: comprehension, vocabulary and writing. In my vocabulary station I will use the I’m Lovin’ Lit Interactive Vocabulary Notebook, Grades 6 - 8: Greek and Latin Roots and Affixes, grammar and the Daily academic vocabulary resources. In my writing station I can use the text based non fiction writing, daily editing and the 6-traits of writing resources. For my comprehension I will incorporate the daily reading comprehension passages from the resources. I also teach 6th grade writing in which I will use the language fundamentals, 6 traits resources and editing resources even further.
With daily practice it is my hope that the students will be able to use the knowledge they have gained to improve their skills, scores on state tests, self - esteem and incorporate their new understandings into their writing.
