Help me give my students laminating pouches, a timer, and fidget bands, to help them remain on task. Coming back from such a long break, time management and sensory stimulation are a must. Multiple classroom activities will be needed to get us going.
I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with intellectual, physical, and emotional needs (moderate to severe disabilities). Each day in my classroom, we not only work on academics, but we do job skills, cooking, self-help, and household jobs.
My goal is for my students to be functional members of society with as much independence as they can possibly have.
To be able to reach my students with visual, verbal, cognitive, and emotional difficulties it takes a great deal of general classroom supplies. We must do the same activity a number of times for the students learn and generalize a task.
My Project
After such a long break this year students are going to need time management and sensory tools more than ever.
Timers and fidget bands for each student will help make their return to school more successful.
Timers will help students learn how to manage their time and help to hold meltdowns to a minimum because students will have a clear understanding of the time they have left to do something. Placing fidget bands on student chairs provides students with a way to have the release of energy they need while not disrupting instruction.
As we are making additional classroom materials for our return, it takes a great deal of velcro and laminate to make materials at the students level. All activities are laminated so that students cannot destroy materials and velcro gives flexibility to the activity for students that cannot write.
