Getting a Headstart in Education!

My students need the printer because it would come in handy for printing out work and running copies of needed papers, since many times the school copier is not functional.

My Students

Our school is one of only three in the entire District that provides a Preppy Kindergarten ("Preppy-K") program, and the program is available to ANY qualified student district-wide. A further description of the Preppy-K program is set out below.

The students currently enrolled in Preppy-K cover the spectrum - from those not quite ready for kindergarten, to others that continue to work on impulse control and focus.

Preppy-K is designed to provide an opportunity for our students to smoothly transition into a traditional Kindergarten class by the end of the Preppy-K program, thereby allowing the students an additional year to mature and obtain the requisite readiness skills for the next chapter in their lives -- Kindergarten. Importantly, this public school program is available to students district-wide, irrespective of whether they reside beyond the geographical limits of their home school boundaries. Thus, the program is available to all children in the District regardless of their gender, race, national origin, religion, socioeconomic background or disability. Our students are enthusiastic learners. Personalities vary as well. We have mild-mannered, shy, boisterous, very active, focused, unfocused, mature, immature, etc.

My Project

The program serves 19 students in 2 classrooms. Our school has a crucial need for funding. In the current challenging economic climate, the school is without adequate financing for the most rudimentary supplies and materials that are necessary for a successful learning environment(e.g., pencils, photocopy paper, etc.) There are several items that this program could utilize to ensure its success, but the requested printer would be an extraordinarily valuable addition to our classroom. While our students are able to use the computer, they are precluded from printing their work. A printer would allow them to print and take their work home. Additionally, the printer/scanner functions would be in high demand because the campus photocopier is frequently unavailable/broken. The printer could also be used to make a quick copy of a parent note, student contract, etc., before a student leaves class. The scanner would be used for imaging documents/photographs/etc for various projects.

Kindergarten is not what a lot of us remember it to be.

The demands made of our young students have dramatically increased. The Preppy-K program reaches ALL children in our District to provide them with the help they need to meet the challenges of Kindergarten. In doing so, we believe that our students will approach their lives with a greater level of confidence in their ability to learn, understand, and, ultimately, achieve their goals.
