Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school offers small group instruction in a Life Skills class with students in grades 1-5 in one room. Small teacher to student ratio allows kids to get up close to the lesson and to the leader for better understanding.
Students with Intellectual disabilities need a large variety of materials and experiences that bring relevance to learning.
When they have games to play, they see learning in action and having fun at the same time. Repetition is easier when they play.
My Project
Math and reading are invaluable to even the most challenged student. Our students may understand what others say but expressing their own thoughts with order is abstract to them. They need a variety of tools to help them.
Games and hands on group activities give these kids a fun way to analyze patterns in reading and in math.
Using big keyboards can be more functional than handling writing utensils. Document readers magnify pictures and objects for all to see and to interact with. Kids use plastic manipulatives for every subject to develop fine motor control and to work out the language involved in problem solving.
