Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 20 preschoolers living in a diverse neighborhood who attend a large public school receiving Title I funds within an even larger school system. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, and a variety of beautiful languages are heard throughout the day in our class. At three, four, and five years of age, my preschool classroom is their first time being in an educational environment with other students.
It is a time of many proud "firsts" and remarkable moments of questioning, discovery, and exploration.
My students are very verbal and social, and they have an unbridled passion for trying new things and solving problems. Preschool is a time to nurture natural wonder and curiosity and to set the foundations for skills and habits that will follow my students as they continue with their educational experiences.
I am always looking for new ways to feed my students' interests. I change the materials and layout of my classroom throughout the year to provide them with the best learning environment that caters to their interests. I cherish my role as an educator in supporting my students on all of their learning paths!
My Project
I have used microscopes in my classroom in the past, and have seen how excited my students have been to inspect bugs and items up close and personal! Being able to add these two microscopes to my Science center will create a more engaging center of my classroom that my students will for sure flock to.
These microscopes will allow my students to explore their world more closely, and ask questions!
My young scientists are always excited to learn new things, and these microscopes and their included slides, as well as the acrylic-encased bugs, will prompt their imagination and be sure to excite them. I would also love to have a non-fiction bug book to add to my science center, to encourage my students to seek out the answers to questions they may have - and to prompt further questions and inquiry! These tools will allow my students to explore items with more precision, and be prompted to ask questions they may not have thought of before!
