I teach Kindergarten in a rural Oklahoma town to a class full of wonderful and very energetic little boys and girls! They love to move around & use flexible seating as well as other manipulatives as much as possible, so I am always doing my best to keep them engaged!
My kinders love to learn while playing, and boring pencil and paper activities just won't do!
Since we are all day kindergarten classes, it is important to keep the energy and love of learning flowing all day long.
My Project
I want to incorporate flexible seating into my classroom. I feel it will empower student choice, enhance student learning, improve student participation, and improve behavior. With flexible seating students will have the choice to decide which learning space works best for them.
I am requesting different flexible seating options such as wobble stools, soft seats, yoga mats and yoga balls for my Kindergarten students.
Giving the students a choice will engage them and while they’re actively engaged, their behavior will improve. Research shows that the brain learns best when it is actively involved in physical activity. Having flexible seating gives the students more room to move around the classroom while learning.
Flexible seating also gives students a better opportunity to work together and communicate with each other while learning.
