This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pencils seem like an item that just eludes the average student in my classes. A sharpen pencil is next to a miracle.
My students are economically challenged and come from a diverse neighborhood, mostly walking to school.
Since we are a charter school, the parents choose to have them attend our challenging school. The need of basic school supplies sometimes are not high on the family's to do list.
My Project
The use of the pencils and sharpeners will enable the students to be prepared for class. The eagerness to learn will not be stymmied by the lack of a basic writing instrument to start the class. Then the students can follow procedures as to sharpen pencils at the start of class but yet the hand sharpener will allow a quiet sharpener during the period.
In closing, thank you for your caring consideration to help others less fortunate.
My students sometimes lack the self-esteem to keep forging ahead, due to the family and neighborhood circumstances. The little things, like a pencil, mean the world to my students when they have a constant want to succeed. Your help can be the push to get them over to the positive attitude that is needed to succeed.
