Energetic, curious, motivated and creative, that's how I describe my third graders. These 8-9 year old students are developing active minds and active bodies. In order to be successful learners, they need to keep a balance of body movement and mental engagement.
When we move our bodies, we are not only allowing our minds to become stimulated, but we are keeping a healthy balance of fitness and learning.
My kids love to move and crave opportunities to engage in physical activity inside and outside the classroom throughout their day. Inside the classroom, they learn better when they engage their core while working at their desks.
Play is an important part of development They practice problem solving skills, creativity and communication skills when they participate in physical activity at school. They use play to learn about themselves and practice coordination and skills that support learning.
My Project
This equipment will allow not only seating choices for movement inside the classroom, but also supply the students with balls for a healthy and active outside sport. When children feel good, they perform well.
One way we can keep healthy and focused inside the classroom is to increase our fitness and ability to stay alert.
I have found that students who move, are students who stay engaged. It's hard to sit a long time in a traditional hard plastic chair when you are 8-9 years old! The ball chairs are great for allowing movement while seated in the classroom. Giving them choices for seating will provide opportunities for increased learning due to this engagement. this is especially true for those students who struggle with attention. By creating movement in their day, not just at recess, the need for stimulation is met and the brain can focus. It is my hope that you will help me give my students what they need to be successful learners.
