My students need 6 more K'Motion Stools so that there is one for each of them to use during small group independent work to help get the movement that they need.
I teach elementary special education students. This covers a wide variety, including students with learning disabilities, students with autism, students with intellectual disabilities, students with emotional/behavioral disorders, and students with attention deficits. Each year, my particular group of students can change and vary based on numbers and grade levels.
Our school- Mathews Elementary in Columbus, Ga is just outside of Ft.
Benning. We have a large majority of children of active-duty military parents stationed at Ft. Benning. We have a specific military liaison program to work with the children and talk about things they deal with. In my special education class, half of my students are military students. Having been a military wife, I understand the burden of many of my students' parents balancing a child with greater needs and a job that often takes one parent away from the home.
My students can be difficult to reach and often do not enjoy school because of their obstacles, but they have so much potential and thrive with the right support and love. Currently this year, I work with 20 5th grade students. They are a sweet group with a variety of personalities and needs. I want to see them finish this year ready to face middle school with success!
My Project
I was given 4 K'Motion Stools (thanks to our media center specialist) earlier this year, and MY STUDENTS LOVE THEM! They are so helpful with their focus during independent work. I've seen their attention span lengthen and their work improve. The problem, however, is that only a fraction of even my small group is able to use them at the same time.
With teaching elementary special education, the majority of my students have either anxiety or attention deficits- if not both- and these stools are such a cool and effective way to help with that!
Please help me fill this need so that each of my students will be able to use one.
