My Students

Our school is comprised of a diverse population of low income students, many of who are English Language Learners. I service both general education and special education students in social-emotional learning. I teach my students life skills including self-help, social skills, and coping mechanisms, working closely with teachers, paras, parents, and our school comfort dog, Jumah. In my room students can feel safe to express themselves and ask for help.

As a school counselor I have the privilege to work with so many of our students, and provide resources for the whole school!

My Project

As a counselor for over 1,300 students, I see how stress and excess energy can negatively impact a child's day in school. When our bodies are overwhelmed with demands of sitting still for hours at a time, we often feel uncomfortable and unfocused. In children with disabilities or children who struggle with coping skills, this feeling of restlessness is often followed by uncooperative or unsafe behavior such as yelling, running away, or hitting. Movement breaks are a great alternate that we try to teach our children when we notice the first signs of restlessness. These sensory floor decals would be a perfect way to positively engage children who need a break or relieve some stress!
