Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are active middle school students who love active learning projects! These energetic, inner-city students are working very hard to increase their math and reading skills in order to close the achievement gap.
Our Pre-K-8 community school is very limited in supplies and resources.
However, our school is a close-knit family that celebrates the success of all its members! Our school offers free breakfast and lunch to 100% of our students. Many students also participate in a free after school program that provides a free dinner. Our school has 40% more English language learners than the district.
My Project
Homelessness plagues our student population all too often. When a family does not have a stable home location, it is very hard for students to come to school wearing a clean school uniform. Often times, it is not possible for families to do laundry during the work/school week. In these cases, students are more likely to wear non-uniform clothing or wear the same clothing multiple times.
This project will ensure that every student will be able to wear a clean uniform to school.
Our middle school students will be less self-conscious and more ready to learn without the worry of being "out of uniform."
