My students need 20 badminton rackets. Currently we are operating with no financial support being a small girl's team. This sport is underrepresented in our community and most of our funds go to boy's basketball and football.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students on the North Side are underrepresented in so many ways. This doesn't stop the amazing things we do at our high school. Our demographics show students who are mostly African American and over 96% fall into the free/reduced lunch category.
Those numbers and percentages mentioned above may be seen as a disadvantage however, our students are brilliant scholars who pursue learning at a high level.
They are focused and determined. We don't have all the tools we need to excel and we are making gains without it.
My Project
Our badminton team is a solid group of high achieving student athletes. They don't have the equipment that supports their needs. Currently, the girls are playing with rackets that have been in the PE department for 16 years. Serving a low income community parents and the schools can't afford to give them what they need to be successful.
If you could be so kind as to fund this project, you will be making a lifelong change in some of our best students.
These girls have been with the program for the past 3 years and deserve equipment that meets their needs and skill level.
