As with most kindergartners, my students are eager to play, and learn. They are very curious about the world around them, and they are eager to use their natural creativity to make sense of that world.
Although they are in a high-poverty school, they see the world through the same five-year-old eyes as anyone.
They need supplies provided to them to make the most of their curiosity and eagerness to learn. I want them to go into the world with any advantage I can provide.
My Project
“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” - Dr. Seuss. As our students go through their kindergarten year, I want them to learn to love books. That is why we are having a Dr. Seuss day. I have volunteers who are coming to our class to read their favorite Dr. Seuss book, and I have a parent making Dr. Seuss cupcakes.
We would like to each wear a hat like the Cat in the Hat, and go home with their very own book by Dr. Seuss!
For some students, this may be the first book that they own. I want to make this a memorable day that they will look back on as their favorite part of kindergarten.
