Welcome to our school where we build "Champions for Life." These words are the first thing our students hear over the announcement system every day! Immediately after these words sound and the announcements conclude, we get to business in the band room.
Music should be an option for all, however, the expenses of having and maintaining a musical instrument are too much for the majority of the music students within our district.
This is a problem we face everyday here. The program here serves almost 150 students from grades 9-12. Of the students, about 75% are using school-owned instruments that are in need of moderate repair (which we simply do not have the budget for). These are wonderful, hardworking kids who come from struggling families. Without school funded support in the arts, these students will continue to step away from performance-based classes (such as band) due to financial reasons.
The Lincoln Marching Band is building numbers this year and appears to be at it's largest size in almost 8 years. This is an amazing problem for us to how, however it requires a lot more supplies than we are budgeted for or accustomed to. For this reason we are reaching out in hopes that you can help stock our supply cabinet for this upcoming season!
The reeds that you are providing with be given to students that simply can not afford to purchase their own.
Van Dyke Public Schools is a 100% title one district where all students are provided with free breakfast and lunch every day. They also have the option of free meals all summer.
We are coming back off an amazing year last year where despite financial obstacles we still participated in District and State Band Festival where we earned a Superior 1st Division Rating at both! Your generosity is helping an amazing group of young people and for that we thank you!
