My Students

We are a low income school and most of my students come from single-parent homes or being raised by relatives. They are sponges waiting to soak up everything I have to give.

My students are very creative and love to read a variety of genres.

Anytime I receive a new book, they are all over it! Over the past several months I have seen them grow in their interest and love for reading.

My Project

This is my very first year teaching and my classroom did not come with many books for my classroom library. Having a variety of books to choose from is so important for students. My students have a vast interest and varied reading levels. I want to have a variety of books in our classroom library so that they have choices all year long.

Giving the gift to choose a book they are interested in, also gives them the gift of learning.

Most of my students do the majority of their reading at school. I want them to fall so in love with their book that it becomes something they want to do, not just something they have to do.

When a child's reading improves, all other areas improve as well. If we can get children to fall in love with reading, then all the things will fall into place.
