Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5th graders in Meriden attend an extended learning day public school in a low-income neighborhood. For many of them, our classroom is not only a place where they are learning academics, but also find comfort stability when they are facing challenges at home.
My students amaze me regularly with their skills and talents.
From coding games to creating 3-D models to choreographing entire dance routines, these are children who thrive when their creativity meets opportunity.
As 5th graders who are growing and beginning to understand the world around them, our classroom is a place where they are welcomed to be who they are and encouraged to express themselves. They are inquisitive, critical, enthusiastic, and eager to gain the knowledge that the world has to offer, especially when taught in a way that peaks their curiosity!
My Project
Although more than deserving of opportunities to thrive, lack of resources and tools have often limited the learning experiences that I can create in the classroom.
My students deserve the opportunity to develop the skills they'll need to compete in a tech savvy and innovative society.
This why it's important for me to create engaging lessons that will support their critical and creative thinking skills!
By creating more interactive learning experiences for my students using tools such as Ozobots, Legos, Rory's Story Cubes, and performance equipment, they will have the opportunity to get engaged and excited about their learning. The skills they will gain are ones that will support them far beyond the classroom.
Whether we are using these tools to practice measurement and conversion, STEAM challenges, creative writing, performance of their pieces, reader's theater, or one of the many other possibilities, I want to provide my students with memorable and valuable learning experiences.
