My Students
My students have been identified as first generation college bound students who are deemed "At Risk"students as well. My school is a Title I school. The students' living environment is considered lower class. The students in my class have expressed they want to increase their organizational skills in preparation to be successful in college. The students have done a self reflection on what could help them increase their sense of responsibility for the upcoming school year and the main concern was their organizational skills.
My Project
We are requesting large magnetic dry-erase easels which will allow students to present their subject area weakness and their point of confusion. The students will give a 30 second speech as to why they are struggling with the problem that has been presented on the board. The use of the easels makes it easier to break the class into smaller groups thus creating accountability for each other in the group.
Critical thinking skills will be utilized with other students in the small groups then the use of Socratic questioning will be used to assist the student working through the tutorial.
The student work will be displayed on the board for everyone in the group to see. Each group will have time to debrief.
